Biography:
Chris Roy – Founder & Beat Writer
Chris has been in sports journalism for the last six years. Prior to that, he spent his days as a collection agent, both in the field and behind a desk, but he decided it was time to find a new and exciting challenge. Chris began writing for MVN, an online magazine, covering sports from a fan perspective. After building the respect of his peers, he began covering the Portland Pirates, Portland Sea Dogs, auto racing and high school sports for several news organizations including Biddeford’s Journal Tribune and York County Coast Star. Realizing there was a need for better hockey coverage in the State of Maine, Chris along with Nathan Fournier began Maine Hockey Journal in 2008, providing hockey coverage from around the state.
Chris attended Southern Maine Community College earning a degree Liberal Arts with a concentration in Behavioral Health Sciences.

Nathan Fournier — Comminications Director & Beat Writer
Nathan along with Chris Roy founded the Maine Hockey Journal in August 2008 and has been the main beat writer for the Lewiston Maineiacs, Maine Black Bears, and also covered high school hockey. He just recently earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications at the New England School of Communications in Bangor, ME with a concentration in sports journalism. He also runs The World of Junior Hockey blog and has written for various publications covering junior hockey. He’s a 2006 graduate of St. Dominic Regional High School where he spent three years as the hockey team’s equipment manager.

Lindsey DeRosa — Lewiston Maineiacs Beat Writer
Lindsey is a college student at Saint Joseph’s College in Maine, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Writing. She is currently part of the college’s Newspaper Club and does editorial work on the side. Lindsey is a dedicated distance-runner and former ice hockey and field hockey player.

Matthew Booth – Black Bears Beat Writer
Matthew has been blazing the trails and coastlines of the eastern United States for the past six years and recording all its beauty and amazement through a camera lens, a pen, and some paper. Matthew attended Amity Regional High School in Woodbridge, CT where he spent the majority of his time as a multisport athlete playing football and running two seasons of track each year. Upon graduating, Matthew went looking for a new adventure and ended up in South Carolina to pursue his degree in English at Coastal Carolina University. After spending five years in the South Carolina heat, he was ready to go back home to where is heart was – New England. Maine is a new adventure for Matthew and it’s a place where he can pursue his childhood dream of following hockey. Whether he was using his family’s season tickets to watch the Bruins at the Boston Garden or playing pond hockey across the street from his house, hockey has been part of his life since he was a kid.

Cory Prescott — NCAA D-III & High School Beat Writer
A recent graduate from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA, Cory spent three of his four years at Susquehanna as The Crusader’s sports editor. He also spent time working for the school’s athletics communications department, and did a little work for one of the sports radio shows on the school’s own radio station, WQSU. Cory was also a NCAA Div-III letter for the Susquehanna University Crusaders men’s tennis team. He grew up and remained a die-hard Boston sports fan.

Mike Coffey — NCAA D-III & High School Beat Writer
Hockey has been a major part of Mike’s life for as long as he can remember. He began skating soon after learning to walk and entered a youth league at the age of three. Mike played varsity hockey for Mt. Ararat High School, where he graduated in 2002. From there, he went on to study English at the University of Maine at Farmington, played on their club hockey team, and earned his degree in 2006. Joining the Maine Hockey Journal team has given Mike the opportunity to launch his writing career covering a sport he has been passionate about since his early childhood.

Mark Edwards – Play by Play Announcer & Writer
Currently attends the University of Southern Maine, majoring in Media Studies. Mark graduated from South Portland High School in 2003, where we tended goal for three seasons. Mentored by Greg Glynn, former Director of Communications for the AHL’s Portland Pirates during the 2005-06 season. While working with the Pirates, Mark assisted in an array of broadcast duties, including compilation of media notes and production of game day programs and articles. Also in 2005-06, Edwards provided play-by-play for South Portland Red Riots hockey games on local access television. In addition to working for the Maine Hockey Journal, he contributes to University of Southern Maine hockey (DIII) as a color analyst.
