The Nor’Easters drop to a record of 1-6-0 in ECAC East play (3-7-2 overall) on the season, while New England College improves to 5-2-0 (8-5-0 overall).
Shots were close in the first period, 11-10 in favor of NEC, who held a 2-0 lead on goals by Brett DiClementi and Jonathan Boxill.
Jesse Ostring added a power-play goal in the second period for the Pilgrims to give them a 3-0 lead before DiClementi put the game away for good with his second of the game less than two minutes in the third period.
Ian Edwards was busy as he stopped 40 of 44 shots in the loss, while Sebastian Anderson improved to 2-0-0 this season with a 16 save shutout performance.
Southern Maine – 4; Saint Anselm – 4
Jon Grandinetti recorded a goal and an assist for the University of Southern Maine, but it wasn’t enough Saint Anselm scored twice in the third period to force the game into overtime where it would end in a 4-4 tie in conference play on Friday.
Saint Anselm’s Ryan Holley scored with six seconds remaining to send the game into overtime where neither team would score as USM falls to 5-5-3 overall (3-3-1 ECAC East) on the season.
Grandinetti scored only 39 seconds into the third period, giving the Huskies a two-goal margin, 4-2, but less than two minutes later Alex Pascal pulled St. A’s back within a goal, beating Braely Torris, who finished the night with 25 saves.
Matt MacDonald opened the scoring for Southern Maine with a shorthanded goal in the first period, but St. A’s stormed back, taking a 2-1 lead in the second period on goals by Tucker Mullin and Kevin Vanous.
With the period winding down, USM regained the lead, scoring twice less than a minute apart, as Mike Greene, with his first of the season, and Troy Thibodeau found the back of the net.
Robert Kang made 42 saves to preserve the tie for Saint Anselm.
Bowdoin – 6; Wesleyan – 2
Bowdoin College cruised past Wesleyan, 6-2, to earn its fifth straight NESCAC conference victory on Friday in Middletown, Connecticut.
After a scoreless first period, offense was fast and furious in the second as Wesleyan and Bowdoin combined for three goals in the first four minutes as the Polar Bears grabbed a 2-1 lead after Jordan Lalor and John McGinnis found the back of the net.
Nik Tasiopoulos scored at 11:44 to pull the game even at 2-2.
In the third period, Bowdoin (8-4-1 overall, 6-2-1 NESCAC) would score four times, getting the game-winner from Jay Livermore, three minutes into the period, to take a 3-2 lead.
Graham Sisson, Ollie Koo and Colin Downey each scored for the Polar Bears and Steve Messina finished the game with 33 saves.
Glenn Stowell stopped 42 of 48 shots in the loss for Wesleyan.
Colby – 4; Trinity – 7
Brother’s Jeffrey and Chris Menard each score two goals and added an assist as Trinity College rolled past Colby College, Friday evening, at the Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
Colby’s season continues to slide in the wrong direction, losing its fourth consecutive game, and six out of its last seven contests to fall to 3-10-0 overall (1-8-0 NESCAC) this season.
Trinity held a 2-1 lead after one on goals by Tim Shea and Jordan So. Dan Nelson, who recorded a hat trick in the game, scored his first with 3:21 to play in the period.
Jeffrey Menard and Joe Tierney extended the lead for the Bantams, 4-1, in the second period before Michael Doherty and Nelson, with his second of game, pulled the Mules back to within a goal, 4-3.
Chris Menard scored with 2:03 remaining in the second period to extend Trinity’s lead back to two goals, 5-3.
Nelson finished off the hat trick at the 6:57 mark of the third period, but Jeffrey and Chris Menard put the game out of reach with their ninth goals of the season, respectively.
Matt Delany, finished with 15 saves, after starting the game, but was pulled eight minutes into the second period in favor of Jordan Nathan, who was seeing action in net for the second consecutive game.
Nathan made 20 saves in taking the loss. Benjamin Coulthard stopped 32 of 36 shots for the victory.
