The Phoenix Coyotes are a little banged up on defense and have come calling to the Portland Pirates.

Max Goncharov was recalled by the Coyotes on Monday.

This is Goncharov’s first recall of the season from the Pirates. In 16 games, he has a goal and two assists for three points with a minus-1 rating.

Coyotes Assistant GM Brad Treliving said that Goncharov was “deserving” of this recall after his play in the last three games, where he scored a goal and an assist with a plus-2 rating.

Goncharov travelled to Washington for tonight’s game against the Capitals and according to Treliving will be available to play, if needed.
