USA takes fifth place at the Ivan Hlinka

The United States under-18 team finished the Ivan Hlinka tournament Friday with a 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic in the fifth place game.

Jon Gillies was solid in net for the Americans. The South Portland native as he stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced in 60 minutes of action.

Alex Galchenyuk (Sarnia Sting, OHL), Daniel O’Regan (St. Sebastian’s School, Mass.), and Nicholas Schilkey (Honeybaked midgets, Mich.) were the goal scorers for Team USA.

Canada will play Sweden for the gold medal tomorrow as Canadians dispatched the Russians 5-0 and Sweden held onto a 4-3 victory over Finland. Russia and Finland will play for Bronze tomorrow.
