Dumont returns to former post at Bowdoin

Portland, ME – It’s certainly true that you can go home again.

After spending several years away, Lewiston native and former Bowdoin College assistant coach Jamie Dumont is returning to the Polar Bears men’s ice hockey program.

Bowdoin announced on Wednesday that Dumont was replacing Jeff Pellegrini as assistant coach after he left the school to become an assistant coach for the Harvard University women’s ice hockey team.

Dumont was most recently with Eredivisie League (Netherlands) team, Geleen Smoke Eaters as their head coach before being replaced by Chris Eimers midseason.

The 37-year old is returning to Bowdoin where he spent four years as an assistant coach under long-time coach Terry Meagher. During that span, the school racked up 64 victories and made an appearance the NESCAC Championship game as well as earning an NCAA tournament berth.

After the 2005 season, Dumont became an assistant at Bowling Green where coached former Pirate Derek Whitmore.

He was the head coach of the Bolzano Ice Hockey Club in Italy from 2007-09, where he led the team to the Italian Professional League Championship and was a member of the Italian National Team coaching staff.

He was also an assistant for the former Lewiston Maineiacs during the 2009-’10 season.

NOTES: NESCAC has released their 2011-’12 season schedule and Bowdoin will begin the season on the road in a rematch of last year’s NESCAC title game against Williams College. The Polar Bears won’t return home to the Sid Watson Arena until Dec 3rd where they will begin a five-game homestand, as they finish up a home-and-home series against in-state rival Colby College. Bowdoin will wrap up the season on Feb. 18th against Connecticut College… Maine’s other NESCAC school, Colby College, will begin their season on Nov. 19th on the road against Middlebury… Colby will play Salem St. on Dec 2nd in an exhibition/non-conference game.
