After a strong weekend against Merrimack College, the University of Maine men’s ice hockey team has moved up two spots to No. 14 in the newest USCHO.com top-20 poll. They’ve also moved back into the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, at No. 14, after being on the outside looking in for several weeks.
Maine was named Hockey East Team of the Week after sweeping Merrimack this week, improving to 16-10-6 overall (13-8-4 in Hockey East), with 4-0 and 7-1 victories to pull within three points of the Warriors for home ice. The Black Bears finish their regular season this weekend with games in Amherst, Mass. against the University of Massachusetts.
Freshmen netminder Dan Sullivan was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week after recording his third consecutive shutout, which set a school record at 202:48 minutes, breaking the previous record of 193:45 minutes held by former Black Bear and Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard.
Sullivan finished the week with a 2-0-0 record with a 0.50 goals against average and a .971 save percentage.

Bowdoin College freshmen forward Colin Downey has been named the NESCAC men’s ice hockey co-player of the week.
Downey scored the overtime goal in a 4-3 win Amherst in the NESCAC Quarterfinals last Saturday afternoon.
Downey had two assists in the game before scoring in he scored the game-winner with 1:31 left in the game. Downey has 10 goals on the season and is ranked 13th among rookie scoring in Division III with 23 points.
Bowdoin will now travel to Williams College for the NESCAC semifinals this Saturday where they will face in-state rival Colby College. The winner will advance to the NESCAC Championship game on Sunday.
Downey wasn’t the only award recipient for Bowdoin as junior Dominique Lozzi was named NESCAC women’s ice hockey player of the week. Lozzi scored both goals in a 2-1 victory against Connecticut College in the NESCAC Quarterfinal on Saturday.
With the win, the Polar Bears will play Middlebury will play the top-seeded Middlebury College in the NESCAC semifinals on Saturday.
