The Lewiston Maineiacs received a mixed bag of news in regard to their defensive corp. from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Monday.

Samuel Carrier was named the league’s second star for his play this past week. The 18-year old had six assists and a plus-five rating in two games. Carrier, a seventh round defenseman of the Washington Capitals, who’s in his second season with the Maineiacs, has nine goals and 28 assists in 46 games.

Not all the news was good for the Maineiacs as they were informed that they will be without overage defenseman Olivier-Dame-Malka and Sam Finn for three games each for their actions in Friday night’s game against the Rimouski Oceanic.

Dame-Malka received a suspension for a kneeing incident where there was no penalty on the play. This season he has 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 assists. Finn is being disciplined for an aggressor penalty which he was assessed after his fight with Alex MacDonald. He has 13 assists this season.

NOTES: According to several media reports, both locally and in Quebec, that neither the Lewiston Maineiacs nor any other team in QMJHL have filed for relocation or asked for an extension to continue negotiations with potential future cities.
