The Lewiston Maineiacs showed little rust on Tuesday night in their first action in ten days with a 7-1 drubbing of the Victoriaville Tigres in Victoriaville, in which the visitors struck three times on the power play and had seven players with multi-point efforts.
Francis Beauvillier scored a pair, Pierre-Olivier Morin tallied a goal and two assists, while Stefan Fournier, Etienne Brodeur, Olivier-Dame Malka, and Michael Chaput each chipped in with a goal and an assist each in the lopsided affair.
The power play was clicking for Lewiston early, as the Maineiacs scored twice with the man-advantage in the first period. Morin opened the scoring with his 12th of the year at 3:48, before Beauvillier made it 2-0 at 7:48.
The Lewiston onslaught continued in the second period as they scored three times to extend their advantage to 5-0. Brodeur scored just 47 seconds in to set the tone for the period and give him his 30th goal of the season.
Beauvillier tallied his second goal of the game at 2:28, and then the Lewiston power play struck yet again. This time it was Chaput stepping up with a goal to make it 5-0 at 7:40.
The second Beauvillier goal led to an early hook of Victoriaville starting goalie Antonio Mastropietro. In 22:20 minutes Mastropietro allowed four goals on 15 shots.
The Lewiston power play finished the night three-for-nine with the man-advantage.
Dame-Malka and Stefan Fournier joined the fun in the third period with a goal apiece to make it 7-0 in favor of the Maineiacs.
Matthew Bissonnette assisted the Fournier marker and well as Beauvillier’s first for a two-point game.
Mastropietro’s replacement in net, David Honzik, did not fair much better as he allowed 3 goals on 20 shots.
Victoriaville spoiled Nicholas Champion’s shutout bid with a goal at 16:28 of the third period. Phillip Danault was the culprit, polishing off his 14th of the season, a power play goal, to make it 7-1.
Champion allowed just the one goal in the winning effort and made 21 saves on the night.
NOTES: Maineiacs forward Christophe Lalonde had a goal for Team Quebec in 4-1 win over Slovakia in tonight‘s exhibition game. Maineiacs draft pick Brayden Wood also had a goal in as his Team Atlantic squad fell, 5-4, to the Czech Republic.
