After beginning the preseason undefeated, the Lewiston Maineiacs suffered their first loss of the preseason in a big way, falling 8-1 to Patrick Roy’s Quebec Remparts at the Premiere Tech Centre in Riviere du Loup, QC.
After holding a 1-0 lead on a Patrick Walsh power play goal, the Remparts exploded for seven goals in second period.
The Maineiacs lone goal came from Cameron Critchlow in the second period just 51 seconds after Quebec made it 2-0 on a power play goal by Matthew Brown.
Nicholas Champion took the loss after starting the game, stopping 15 of 20 shots before making way for Tyler Piercy mid-way in the second period, where he faced nine shots, stopping six.
Ray Bourque’s youngest son, Ryan, played for Quebec where he scored three points, tallying a goal and two assists.
The Maineiacs won’t have a long time to dwell on the loss as they will face the Remparts on Saturday, as the two clubs travel to the Ancienne-Lorette Arena in Ancienne-Lorette, QC.
