When JP Lamoureux signed with the Abbotsford Heat, the Calgary Flames AHL affiliate, the Buffalo Sabres were left looking for a new goaltender to backup Jhonas Enroth in Portland.
They have to look no longer as Buffalo signed David Leggio one-year deal. The signing was confirmed by Leggio’s agent Steven Bartlett.
Leggio, 26, played in Finland last season, winning the SM-Liiga – Finland’s top league – championship with TPS, going 5-2-0 during the playoff run with a 1.58 GAA and .942 save percentage.
In 2007-08, Leggio played in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades where he played 39 games, going 27-7-3 with a 2.26 GAA and .916 save percentage as the Everblades won the Brabham Cup as ECHL regular-season champions.
The Williamsville, NY native played four years for Clarkson University where he tallied a 59-29-12 with a .922 save percentage and a 2.30 GAA. In 2006-07, he led the Golden Knights to an ECAC championship where he was named team MVP, ECAC Goaltender of the Year and was on the ECAC’s First All-Star Team.
Leggio played for current MAINEiacs head coach JF Houle when he was an assistant head coach with Clarkson University.
