Pirates to face heavy dose of the Atlantic Division

By  Published: 14th July 2010

The Portland Pirates will be facing a healthy dose of divisional opponents in the upcoming season.

Although the Pirates haven’t officially released the opponents they will play during the 2010-’11 season, enough information has come from other teams from across the American Hockey League that Portland’s opponents list has been made clear.

The Pirates will play 64 games against teams in the Atlantic Division during the upcoming season.

The Pirates will play Manchester, Worcester and Providence 12 times each, Bridgeport and Springfield 10 times and Hartford eight times.

Portland will round out their schedule with 16 games against East Division opponents.

The Pirates will return to North Carolina for the first time since 1996 season when they traveled Greensboro, NC to play the Carolina Monarchs.

The Albany River Rats relocated to Charlotte, NC for the upcoming season and they will face Portland four times over the season.

Norfolk Admirals will also play the Pirates four times during the season.

The Pirates will play Adirondack, Hershey and Binghamton twice during the season as well as Albany, after the Lowell Devils relocated to that city following the departure of the River Rats to North Carolina.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Syracuse and Rochester will not play the Pirates this season after playing Portland last year.

The regular schedule for the 2010-’11 season will be released next month.

I’m pretty sure the Pirates played the Carolina Monarchs who were in Greenboro, I think.
