Ashley commits to Halifax

By  Published: 15th June 2010

Darcy Ashley has decided to join the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL after being selected in the second round of the QMJHL draft held last weekend in Drummondville.

Ashley, 17, had originally committed verbally back in 2008 to join the University of Maine for the 2011 season.

He recently had been in contact with Maine head coach Tim Whitehead regarding his “potential” future with the Black Bears before ultimately making the decision to join the Mooseheads.

“I’ve been in contact with the (coaching staff) at UMaine and we’ve been talking about my hockey future,” Ashley said.

Apparently, that wasn’t enough to lure Ashley to the Black Bears as he will join the Mooseheads in the fall.

“Halifax was watching me the whole year and really took notice after U-17 tournament,” he said.

Last season with the Summerside (PEI) Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior Hockey League, Ashley scored 67 points (26g, 41a) in 46 games.
