Maineiacs release schedule; changes coming?

By  Published: 21st May 2010

The Lewiston Maineiacs will begin their eighth season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League at home on September 10 against Chicoutimi as the league released their schedule for the 2010- ‘11 season.

The Maineiacs will play in the TELUS East division this season as the QMJHL will revamp their divisions, meaning Lewiston will get a heavy dose of Patrick Roy’s Quebec Remparts as well as Chicoutimi, Rimouski, Baie-Comeau and Victoriaville.

Another highlight of the division change is the playoff format that will see division winners slotted one through three and then four through eight will follow based on their finishing order by points, regardless of division.

The Maineiacs will have a nice dose of weekend home games as 24 of their 34 home games fall on the Friday (9), Saturday (10) and Sunday (5) with the remaining home games being held during the week.

The Maineiacs will open their training camp on Aug. 18 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée, playing their lone exhibition game on Aug 21.

Expect a press conference announcement in the coming days or certainly within the next several weeks that will lay out a vision of a long term future for the Maineiacs.

It’s been no secret the front office of the Maineiacs has been dysfunctional at best with numerous changes over the 18 months beginning with the failed relocation attempt, resignation of Matt McKnight from his post as Vice President and Governor and more recently with the firing of Don MacAdam.

There is also a potential the Maineiacs might be welcoming a new minority owner to fold, which would certainly be beneficial to keeping the Maineiacs in Lewiston for the long term.

It’s expected other office positions will be announced during the press conference as well.

It is finally a good thing that someone local comes forth to help the Maineiacs.
