Devils Top Pirates in Overtime

Cory Murphy scored 1:52 into overtime to give the Lowell Devils a 3-2 win over the Portland Pirates in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 2,503 at the Tsongas Arena.

Michael Swift paced the Devils with two goals and an assist as Lowell improved to 35-26-4-5 on the season.

Cody McCormick and Tyler Ennis replied for the Pirates, who moved to 38-22-6-4 with the loss but have collected points in each of their last four games (2-0-1-1). Nathan Gerbe collected a pair of assists in the losing effort.

The Devils got off to a quick start as Swift gave the home side a 1-0 lead two minutes into the game. McCormick countered midway through the first to leave the two sides even at one heading into the second. Ennis gave the Pirates their first lead of the game midway through the second on a power-play strike only to be answered later in the period by a power-play goal by Swift, his second of the game. The two teams went into the third tied at two.

The Devils out shot the Pirates 30-21 in the game as J.P. Lamoureux took the loss.

The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the Game were 1. Murphy, 2. Swift and 3. Gerbe.
