Mike York scored with 1.3 seconds remaining in regulation and then supplied the deciding goal in a shootout to lift the Rochester Americans to a 3-2 win over the Portland Pirates in an American Hockey League game played this afternoon in front of 4,342 at the Blue Cross Arena.
The loss ended the Pirates franchise record 11 game winning streak.
Jeff Taffe netted the other goal for Rochester, who ended a four-game losing streak and improved to 32-25-2-0 with the win. Jamie Johnson and Evgeny Dadonov also scored for the Amerks in the shootout.
Marc-Andre Gragnani and Felix Schutz scored for the Pirates, now 32-16-5-3. Drew Schiestel and Tyler Ennis were successful in the shootout for Portland.
Gragnani opened the scoring three-and-a-half minutes into the game only to see Rochester answer back when Taffe capitalized while the Americans were enjoying a five-on-three advantage midway through the first. Schutz gave the Pirates the lead back again the opening three minutes of the third but York forced overtime with his late power-play goal.
The Americans out shot the Pirates 39-22 in the game as J.P. Lamoureux took the loss.
