By  Published: 20th February 2010

Derek Whitmore netted the game winning goal early in the third period as the Portland Pirates came-from-behind to post their franchise record 11th straight victory, a 4-3 win over the Rochester Americans in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 5,236 at the Blue Cross Arena.

The Pirates topped the franchise standard of 10 straight wins established from November 8-27, 1996.

Philip Gogulla added a pair of goals for the Pirates while Felix Schutz rounded out the goal scoring. T.J. Brennan collected three assists to help Portland move to 32-16-5-2 on the season.

Jamie Johnson, Clay Wilson and Shawn Matthias replied for the Amerks, who dropped their fourth straight and are now 31-25-2-0 on the season.

Johnson got the Amerks off and rolling early with his 22nd of the season two minutes into the game and Wilson made it 2-0 midway through the period when he converted on the power play. Schutz and Gogulla answered with back-to-back power-play goals in the opening six minutes of the second period to tie the game at two before Matthias restored a one-goal Rochester lead with five minutes remaining in the second period to give the home side a 3-2 lead heading into the third. Gogulla tied it in the opening three minutes of the third to set the stage for Whitmore.

The Pirates out shot Rochester 29-26 in the game as Jhonas Enroth posted the victory.
