Shawinigan defeat Lewiston for second time in as many nights

The Shawinigan Cataractes scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Lewiston MAINEiacs 5-3 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee Saturday night. The win was the sixth straight for Shawinigan.

Leading 1-0 in the first period, Stefan Fournier slid the puck across the ice to Matthew Bissonnette who tapped the puck past goaltender Gabriel Girard giving Lewiston a 2-0 lead. After a Cataractes’ goal Bissionnette returned the favor, by assisting on Stefan Fournier’s 12th of the season extending the Lewiston lead to 3-1.

Pierre-Alexandre Vandall and Philippe Paradis each scored for Shawinigan which tied the game at three at the end of the second period. In the third, Cataractes’ forward Dave Labrecque broke the tie on a penalty shot, slipping the puck through the five-hole of Adrien Lemay. The goal would be the eventual game winner, as Shawinigan defeated Lewiston 5-3.

Lemay takes the loss making 35 saves, while Marc-Antoine Gelinas earns the win in a relief effort, finishing with 20 stop in two periods played.
