By  Published: 8th January 2010

Denis Hamel scored twice to lead the Binghamton Senators to a 4-2 win over the Portland Pirates in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,719 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Keegan Dansereau and Brandon Svendson also scored for the Senators while Derek Smith collected two assists. Binghamton improved to 16-15-3-1 with the win.

Cody McCormick, Mark Mancari and Mike Weber scored for the Pirates, who saw their two-game road winning streak come to end. Portland dropped to 18-14-4-2 on the season.

McCormick opened the scoring four minutes into the game only to see Dansereau even things up four minutes later to complete the scoring in the first. Hamel gave Binghamton their first lead of the game in the opening minute of the second on a breakaway. Mancari answered on a five-on-three power play to even things up at two but Svendsen struck midway through the middle frame to give the Senators a 3-2 lead after two. Hamel struck for his second of the game on a five-on-three power play early in the third to give Binghamton a 4-2 advantage. Weber made it a one-goal game with just under two minutes remaining in regulation but that was as close as the Pirates would get.

The Pirates outshot the Senators 37-33 in the game as Jhonas Enroth took the loss.
