Sound Tigers stifle the Pirates’ offense

By  Published: 15th December 2009

Nathan Lawson turned aside all 26 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers beat the Portland Pirates 2-0 in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 2,103 at Arena at Harbor Yard.

Mark Katic and Greg Mauldin each scored unassisted goals in the game to account for all the offense as the Sound Tigers improved to 16-13-1-2 on the season.

The Pirates saw their nine-game road point streak (6-0-2-1) come to an end with the loss. Portland is now 14-12-3-2 on the campaign.

The two teams were scoreless through one. Katic scored his unassisted goal early in the second period to send the Sound Tigers into the third with a 1-0 advantage. Mauldin made it a two-goal lead with a shorthanded marker midway through the third.
