After being outshot 16-5 in the first period, the Rimouski Oceanic found their offense in the second period scoring three time enroute to a 4-1 win over the Lewiston Maineiacs before 2,157 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
After a scoreless first period, Patrice Cormier gave the Oceanic a 1-0 lead only 15 seconds into the second period.
At 7:28, Jakub Culek recorded his seventh goal of the year, giving Rimouski a 2-0 lead.
Just over a minute later, the Maineiacs worked their way back into the game when 16-year old Francis Beavillier scored a goal on the power play, cutting Rimouski’s lead in half, 2-1, at 8:34 of the period.
Rimouski had their two-goal lead restored as Jordan Caron scored his second goal of the season, also a power play goal, with 7:11 to play in the second period.
With 8:55 to play in the game, Mathieu Loisel added the insurance marker, giving Rimouski a 4-1 lead.
Adrien Lemay stopped 24 shots in the losing effort. Matthew Dupod made 40 saves in Rimouski’s win.
The Maineiacs were 1-for-7 on the powerplay, while Rimouski went 1-for-6 on the night.
