13 players on Hockey East’s All-Academic Team

WAKEFIELD, Mass. — The University of Maine men’s ice hockey team placed 13 student-athletes on the 2008-09 Hockey East Academic Honor Roll released on Monday, June 8, 2009. Chris Hahn (Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan) was named to the Hockey East Academic All-Star Team, in addition to being named a Hockey East Distinguished Scholar.

A total of 94 Hockey East student-athletes were named to the honor roll. Merrimack led all Hockey East schools as it placed 16 student-athletes on the honor roll. Maine was second, placing 13 student-athletes on the honor roll. Massachusetts was third as it had 12 student-athletes named to the team. Northeastern was fourth with 11 student-athletes honored, followed by UMass Lowell (10), Providence (9), New Hampshire (8), Boston College (6), Vermont (5) and Boston University (4).

Hahn was named to the Hockey East Association Academic All-Star Team. The team honors the top grade point average by position. It is the second year in a row that Hahn has earned a spot on the Hockey East Academic All-Star Team.

In addition, Hahn was named one of 10 Hockey East Distinguished Scholars. Those earning Distinguished Scholar status achieved a 3.0 or better in each semester over four varsity seasons.

Hahn has been named to the Hockey East Academic Honor Roll four times. Brett Carriere (Ottawa, Ontario), Simon Danis-Pepin (Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec), Robby Dee (Plymouth, Minn.), Jeff Dimmen (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Tanner House (Cochrane, Alberta), Lem Randall (Snow Lake, Manitoba) and Josh Van Dyk (Woodstock, Ontario) were each honored for the second time in their careers. Spencer Abbott (Hamilton, Ontario), Gustav Nyquist (Malmo, Sweden), Will O’Neill (Salem, Mass.), Josh Seeley (Howland, Maine) and Kevin Swallow (Stanwood, Mich.) were all honored for the first time.

To earn a spot on the Hockey East All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.0 grade point average or better in each of the two academic periods which he was actively competing.
