Kassel, Germany- According to the Kassel Huskies website, Derek Damon, a former Maine standout, has agreed to terms with the Deutsche Eishockey Liga club.
The 28-year-old spent last season with Assat in the the Finnish top league, the Sm-Liiga. He was third on the team in scoring as he recorded 13 goals and 18 assists in 53 games.
He spent the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons with the Florida Everglades of the ECHL. He had 45 goals and 78 assists in 107 games. The Lowell Lock Monsters gave him a tryout during the 2005-2006 season after the Black Bear season ended. Damon appeared in three games He also saw time with the Albany River Rats in the 2007-2008 season where he saw 15 games. His five career points (2 goals and 3 assists) in the AHL came in a River Rats uniform.
The Bangor native played his college hockey in his backyard at the University of Maine from 2002-2006. He lit the lamp 51 times and added 60 assists in 159 games with the Black Bears. He was a four-year lettermen with Maine.
