On Tuesday, Pierre Durepos, a top defensive QMJHL draft prospect, told the Times and Transcript he has choosen the NCAA route. The top two schools on his list are Maine and Princeton. The paper says he has a verbal commitment with the Maine Black Bears.

“No, not really,” he (Durepos) said (to the Times and Transcript). “We’ve talked to them, but there’s not really anything on the table. They can’t officially give me an offer before I’m done Grade 11 so there’s no offer yet.

Sources tell the Maine Hockey Journal, the Shediac, New Brunswick native has another verbal deal in place with the Moncton Wildcats for the upcoming QMJHL Draft. Shediac sits on the outskirts of Moncton. The Wildcats hold the 5th and 16th pick in the first round on June 6th.

“He is an amazing offensive d-man (defenseman) and the best 16-year-old dman in the draft, but I think Moncton might have him already signed,” says one source.

Durepos had 13 goals and 31 assists in 33 games this season with the Moncton Flyers of New Brunswick-Prince Edward Island Major Midget AAA league. The same league as 2011 Maine recruit Darcy Ashley. In the playoffs, he he added three goals and three assists in eight playoff contests.

The Moncton Flyers advanced to the Telus Cup where they finished 1-4 and Durepos had a goal in five games.
