Portland, ME – The Portland Pirates broadcast are returning to the FM dial for the 2009-’10 season after they announced today a long-term relationship with Atlantic Coast Radio to broadcast all games on WLOB 95.5FM and 1310AM.

The move to WLOB will alleviate past issues of being delayed or not aired due to other programming. For the last two seasons the Pirates were with the Portland Radio Group 1400AM/1490AM and had to deal with numerous issues due to the broadcast of the Portland Sea Dogs.

“We are very excited to return to Atlantic Coast Radio to deliver Pirates Hockey through a stronger FM signal, not be bumped off the dial because of other programming and have the opportunity to integrate professional sports with the powerful, growing news/talk platform that WLOB has built over the past few years,” said Pirates Managing Owner/CEO Brian Petrovek.

WLOB is a 5,000 watt station meaning a stronger signal than they’ve had in the past two seasons with Portland’s Radio Group 1400AM/1490AM, which could only be heard within the Metro Portland area.

The Pirates are joining other sports properties of Atlantic Coast Radio as they also broadcast the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, University of Maine Football and Ice Hockey as well as new addition to Portland sports, The Maine Red Claws of the NBA’s D-League.

This will be the Pirates second stint with Atlantic Coast Radio after spending seven years with WJAB 95.5FM/1440AM “The Big Jab” before moving to Portland Radio Group’s 1400AM/1490AM “The Bay”.
