The Portland Junior Pirates Junior A squad had a big weekend. On Saturday, they defeated the Laconia Leafs 4-1. Matt Crowley, Tyler Fleurent, Derek Tomes, and Connor Anthoine were the goal scorers. The Portland Pirates’ parent club, the Buffalo Sabres, have been awarded the 2011 World Junior Championships. The tournament will be held from December 26th, 2010 to January 5th, 2011 at the HSBC Arena and at Dwyer Arena (Niagara University) in Lewiston, New York.

Portland, ME – Prior to practice, the Portland Pirates found themselves down a defenseman, and not due to injury. Pirates’ defenseman Mike Weber was recalled by the Buffalo Sabres this morning and is expected to be in the lineup for Buffalo when they play the Ottawa Senators at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY.
