Dineen to remain with the Pirates

By  Published: 4th August 2008

Portland, ME – The Portland Pirates have scheduled a press conference for Tuesday, August 5th at 2:00pm to introduce their head coach. The press conference will be held in the Captain’s Club at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

For much of the time, Kevin Dineen has been seen as the front running candidate for job after Randy Cunneyworth accepted the assistant coaching position with the Atlanta Thrashers. It’s expected that Dineen will be announced tomorrow as the head coach of the Portland Pirates, remaining with a team where he spent the last three seasons as the head coach of the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks. During that span, he guided the team to the Eastern Conference Finals in two of those three seasons, winning the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award for AHL Coach of the Year in 05′-06′.

In three seasons, Dineen is 135-76-13-16 behind the bench of the Portland Pirates.
