Former Pirates head coach Glen Hanlon was fired by the Washington Capitals this morning after they got to off to their worst start in 26-years. After beginning the season with a 3-0 record, the Capitals preceded to lose 15 of their next 18 games including a 5-1 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers on Wednesday night.
He will be replaced by Hershey Bears head coach Bruce Boudreau, who in two season with the Bears made back-to-back appearances to the Calder Cup Finals, winning the Cup in 2006.
Hanlon coached the Pirates from 1999-to-2002 before being promoted to assistant coach of the Capitals.
His record in three seasons with the Pirates was 100-94-29-7.
