Pirates slumping early in the season

Lowell, Mass. – The Portland Pirates are mired in their first slump after losing their third straight game of the weekend, falling to the Lowell Devils 4-1 in front of a sparse crowd of 1,023 at Tsongas Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The lone goal for the Pirates came from Clay Wilson early in the first period.

The Devils scored four unanswered goals from Stephen Gionta, Jason Ryznar, Grant Marshall and Petr Vrana.

J.P. Levasseur made 19 saves in the loss.
