Worcester, Mass. – It only took the Worcester Sharks two minutes to seize the game’s momentum and the lead as they went on to defeat the Portland Pirates, 3-2 in front of 7,230 at the DCU Center on Saturday night.
The Pirates, in the middle of a three-in-three weekend, grabbed the early 1-0 lead as Jason King scored his team-leading fourth of the season, just 1:43 into the first period.
The only other goal for the Pirates came at the hands of Tyler Bouck as he scored his first of the season at 4:26 of the third period.
With the Pirates out front 1-0, Petteri Wirtanen and Bobby Ryan were call for back-to-back penalties and within a span of 2:12; the Sharks scored three goals in the second period, putting the Pirates in a hole. The goal scorers were Tom Cavanagh, Nate Raduns and Mike Iggulden, who had a point on each of the three goals.
Mike McKenna, getting his first start in a Pirates uniform since being signed earlier this week, stopped 20 shots in the loss.
