So much for having Christmas off.

I don’t think Tim Brent would mind.

Hockey Canada announced on Sunday that Portland Pirates’ forward Tim Brent was added to Team Canada’s Spengler Cup roster.

Brent, 22, scored 7 goals, 9 assists for 16 points in 25 games with the Pirates this season.

Hockey Canada added Brent after an injury to Serge Aubin forced him to miss the tournament.

The Spengler Cup is an annual Christmas time tournament, which takes place in Davos, Switzerland. The Spengler Cup, hosted by HC Davos, a Swiss Elite League team has hosted the tournament since 1923 against other club teams by invitation only.

Team Canada, mostly comprised of Canadian-born players on club teams in Europe, along with players on loan from North American pro teams. Team Canada has competed on a yearly basis since 1984, winning the Spengler Cup 10 times during that time period, last win being in 2003.

Brent will miss the next three Pirates games as a result of being with Team Canada.
